About St Lucia & iSimangaliso
iSimangaliso Wetland Park is one of South Africa's most varied natural landscapes, bringing together lakes, wetlands, beaches, coastal forest, woodlands and grasslands in a narrow stretch along the Indian Ocean.
This unusual mosaic of habitats supports an exceptional variety of birdlife, mammals and marine life. For visiting birders, that means a short stay can include forest specials, waterbirds, grassland species, raptors and seasonal migrants.
St Lucia sits at the centre of this experience and works as a practical base for short walks, sunrise safaris, full-day birding and longer Zululand itineraries.

A region built for nature travel.
The wider Elephant Coast stretches between the Indian Ocean, wetland systems, forest and game reserves. The area combines birding with wildlife viewing, beaches, cultural experiences and scenic drives.
That variety makes it suitable for mixed-interest groups: one person can be chasing target birds while another enjoys the wildlife, landscapes and relaxed pace of the region.
Wetlands
Lakes, pans, estuary edges and reedbeds.
Forests
Coastal and riverine habitats rich in specials.
Wildlife
Birding alongside iconic African mammals.
Themba's guiding background
Themba was born and raised in northern KwaZulu-Natal in the region now widely known as the Elephant Coast. His local knowledge covers the Zulu people and culture as well as the area's birds, wildlife and history.
He is trained as a nature guide and bird guide and has long been associated with the Zululand Birding Route. He works with casual birders, specialist birders, families and private groups.
The key idea is flexibility: tours can be adapted around your experience level, time, vehicle, target species and the conditions on the day.
